“I like the idea of feeling close to the action without having to engage in it. “I’m a recluse,” he says, as he retreats to a sofa. “I don’t leave the house, pretty much ever, I work all the time,” he says.
He paused in Los Angeles at the end of that tour, and never left. He was there during the campaign for his debut artist album, ‘Adventure’, his powerhouse single with Porter Robinson, ‘Shelter’, and its hugely successful ensuing tour. It will be the latest addition to the 25-year-old’s real estate portfolio, a far cry from his parents’ home in Nantes, France, where he continued to live during the frenzy created from his first single, the YouTube sensation ‘Pop Culture’. Madeon is in the process of buying this property, in which he has worked since early 2018. This home itself is not unlike a tower - an isolation tower, to be exact. The vast views are of hill after hill flanking the freeway, with houses tucked into them at intervals, and just beyond that is Universal Studios, with the spires of Hogwarts Castle acting as sentry. Built on an incline, its vertical architecture means at least a few steps up or down to get from room to room. Madeon has a DJ residency in Las Vegas at Hakkasan, Omnia LV, and Wet Republic. In 2017, he was nominated for two Electronic Music Awards with Porter Robinson for Single of the Year and Live Act of the Year. He was ranked at number 105 on DJ Mag’s top DJs for 2017.
His debut studio album, Adventure, was released on 27 March 2015, supported by a 22-stop North American tour. His first EP, The City, was released in 2012. He won a remix competition for “The Island” by Pendulum the same year. Leclercq started composing music at the age of 11, producing hands-up under the name of “Deamon” and Wayne Mont until 2010 when he began producing house music under his current name, Madeon, which is an anagram of his previous nickname. It received millions of hits in its first few days of release. He initially came to widespread public attention through a YouTube video, “Pop Culture”, where he performed a mash-up of 39 different popular songs in real-time using a Novation Launchpad. Hugo Pierre Leclercq – better known by his stage name Madeon, is a French DJ, record producer, singer, songwriter and musician from Nantes, France, currently based in Los Angeles.
